About Aracruz Celulose
Aracruz Celulose is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a solid position in the market while also striving to achievethe same level of recognition in the field of social responsibility.
The worldwide eucalyptus pulp production leader, Aracruz is a company that has always invested in land and in people, building an economic, social and environmental heritage for current and future generations.
Aracruz has forestry operations in the Brazilian States of Espírito Santo, Bahia, Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Sul, totaling approximately 280,000 hectares of renewable eucalyptus plantations, interspersed with some 155,000 hectares of native reserves, which are fundamental for assuring the balance of the ecosystem.
Concerned about protection of the country’s Atlantic Forest, in 2007 the company created three Private Natural Heritage Reserves (RPPNs) located in Espírito Santo, which total 2,877 hectares. Another two, located in Bahia and with a total of 3,169 hectares, are currently being created, awaiting recognition by the State Environmental and Water Resources Secretariat and IBAMA.
RPPNs are conservation units created on private land through the initiative of the landowner. Their main objective is to conserve biological diversity.
Among other aspects, Aracruz Celulose’s concern for social responsibility is reflected in a significant social action program run in communities in areas where the company has activities. In its 40 years of operation, Aracruz already has invested over US$120 million in roads, urbanization, education, health, culture and leisure. The company built and maintains neighboring roads, grade schools and professional training centers, medical centers, outpatient clinics and hospitals, water and basic sewage systems, among other infrastructure projects.
Aracruz Celulose believes that the success of its businesses is based on a balance between its economic, environmental and social actions. And it is from this belief that Deeply-Rooted Assets has emerged.
